About RAPUNZEL
RAPUNZEL NATURKOST is one of the leading organic producers in Europe. Starting out as a small health food shop over 45 years ago, it has developed into an internationally active company with more than 400 employees. The core of the company's philosophy is to produce controlled organic, natural and vegetarian foods.Challenge
Logistics at Rapunzel is a central component of worldwide customer supply. Fast response times, short picking and delivery times and 100% delivery capability are crucial in the 23,000 m² logistics centre in Bad Grönenbach. Up to 54,000 picks are carried out there every day in three distribution channels (B2B wholesale customers, B2B retail and B2C online shop), which amounts to an average of 664 shipments and 156 tonnes per day.
Rapunzel was looking for a solution with a long battery life, high efficiency and seamless integration into the warehouse management system in order to increase picking performance and simplify the work steps. The desire was to eliminate the manual handling of a hand-held scanner, as this slows down the picking process and is a hindrance when operating machines.
Lösung
After intensive research, Rapunzel decided in favour of the NIMMSTA Smart Watch, which came out on top in the cost-benefit comparison. This is used together with a tablet attached to the picking machine and is used in various work areas: Unit load picking in the webshop, pack picking in the main client and pallet transport.
The NIMMSTA Smart Watch weighs just 45g and has a powerful scanner that can read barcodes from up to four metres away. With a battery life of 7.5 hours, it remains ready for use throughout the entire shift. The modular system allows employees to customise the smartwatch, making it extremely comfortable to wear.
RAPUNZEL uses NIMMSTA in such a way that the smart watch is connected bidirectionally to the merchandise management system. Information such as item, storage location and quantity is shown on the touch display, and entries can be made directly via the display. Users can be guided interactively through the work process, and picking-relevant data and quantity confirmations are entered via the display.
The warehouse management system LISA from MERCATIS has been extended by integrating the NIMMSTA Core Library, so that Rapunzel and all future users of LISA can easily utilise the NIMMSTA Smart Watch.
''The NIMMSTA Smart Watch is currently unbeatable in order picking. It offers intuitive operation, haptic and acoustic feedback and impresses with its ergonomics, battery life and versatile, customisable touch display.''

Results
The picking performance has already improved noticeably, and the previously necessary battery replacement during the shift is no longer necessary. The hands-free solution also increases safety when driving the picking machines. The employees at RAPUNZEL are delighted, particularly with the scanning performance, battery life and ergonomics of the NIMMSTA Smart Watch, which far surpasses the picking mobile phone previously used.
