At Reichwald + Co., order management and distribution to the production areas is crucial for day-to-day work. Handling large components in the flame-cutting operation is particularly challenging, where every incorrectly allocated item costs time and money. Every crane lift means additional work, and paper-based order picking was time-consuming and error-prone. The cumbersome retrieval of components and the lack of flexibility when changing locations made the processes considerably more difficult. Reichwald + Co. was looking for a solution that offered transparency and flexibility in order to organise processes more efficiently and simplify work steps.
Solution
The company opted for the NIMMSTA Smart Watch, which digitalises and optimises the entire picking process. This solution is currently used for picking, compacting and sorting customer orders, with the clear aim of also using the system for stocktaking in the future. The entire process has been converted to paperless with 12 NIMMSTA Smart Watches.
The Smart Watch is connected bidirectionally to the merchandise management system and offers customised configuration of the touch display. Employees receive all relevant information such as item location, quantity, weight and delivery date directly on the display in real time. Thanks to the simple operation of the touch display, entries can be made easily, allowing the work process to be controlled intuitively and interactively.
In addition to simple integration into the software, the NIMMSTA Smart Watch offers many advantages on the hardware side. Weighing just 45g, it is barely noticeable and allows employees to pick the heavy steel components with their hands free, which significantly increases work safety. The integrated high-performance scanner can capture barcodes from a distance of up to four metres, and the battery life of 8 hours is sufficient for an entire shift.
NIMMSTA also offers a modular system that can be customised to meet individual needs. Employees can configure their smartwatch according to their preferences and even use it with work gloves.

Results
Switching to the NIMMSTA Smart Watch has reduced search times by 50%. Managing Director Falko Reichwald estimates that a high five-figure sum is saved every year. In addition, the error rate has dropped significantly. The integration of the Smart Watch was simple and employees were able to start using it immediately without any training, as it is intuitive to operate.
